Ceiling damage usually comes from above: an upstairs bathroom, a laundry room, a refrigerator line, an attic pipe or a roof leak. Once the leak is fixed and the mitigation company has finished, Flood Rewind repairs the ceiling. We replace damaged drywall, match the texture and repaint so the repair disappears. We also repair garage ceilings, which often hide plumbing that runs to the rooms above.

Ceiling repairs need care. Overhead drywall is heavier to hang, seams and textures are easy to see when light hits them at an angle, and fixtures like lights, vents and smoke detectors have to be removed and reinstalled. When the leak also affected the walls, we repair those as well, so the room is finished as a whole instead of piece by piece.

Signs you need ceiling water damage repair

Your ceiling may need repair if:

  • There are brown or yellow rings or spreading stains
  • The drywall is sagging or soft
  • The paint is bubbling, cracking or peeling
  • Drywall seams are separating or tape is lifting
  • Part of the ceiling was cut open during mitigation
  • The ceiling texture is crumbling or has changed in color

Our process after mitigation

Here's our ceiling repair process:

  1. Fix the source and complete mitigation: the leak must be repaired, and the property's mitigation company confirms the ceiling cavity is dry.
  2. Assess the damage: we decide whether the drywall can be patched or should be replaced, and check the framing above.
  3. Replace drywall: we install new ceiling drywall, tape and finish it, and match common textures.
  4. Prime and paint: we seal any remaining stains with stain-blocking primer and repaint the full ceiling plane.
  5. Check fixtures: we reinstall lights, vents and smoke detectors.

Insurance help

Ceiling repairs are a common part of water damage claims. Because a patched area rarely matches on its own, the scope often includes repainting the full ceiling. We document the damage and the cause so your adjuster can see why. See insurance claim reconstruction.

They dry it, we fix it

Flood Rewind is a reconstruction company. The property's mitigation company handles the dry-out, and once they confirm the structure is dry, we take over the rebuild.

Frequently asked questions

Can a water-stained ceiling just be painted?

If the drywall is still solid, a stain-blocking primer and fresh paint may be enough. If it's soft or sagging, it should be replaced.

Can you match my ceiling texture?

Yes. We match common textures like knockdown and orange peel so the repair blends in.

Do you repair garage ceilings?

Yes. We repair garage ceilings damaged by leaks from plumbing above, as described in Kristy C.'s review on this page.

Do I have to fix the leak first?

Yes. The source of the leak must be repaired, and the area confirmed dry by your mitigation company, before we rebuild the ceiling.

Will you repaint the whole ceiling?

Usually, yes. Repainting the full ceiling plane prevents a visible patch.

Can you repair a ceiling under an upstairs bathroom?

Yes. We repair the ceiling below and, when needed, the bathroom above, so both areas are finished as part of one project.
