When walls and ceilings are opened up after a water loss, the damage doesn't always stop at the drywall. Bottom plates and studs can be damaged, outlets and wiring near the floor may need replacing, and the plumbing that caused the leak may need permanent repairs before the walls are closed. Flood Rewind coordinates this behind-the-wall work as part of the rebuild. Electrical and plumbing work is done by licensed electricians and plumbers, so everything is done in the right order before new drywall is installed.
Signs you need framing, electrical and plumbing repair
You may need framing, electrical or plumbing work if:
- Bottom plates, studs or sheathing are stained, swollen or soft
- Outlets, switches or wiring near the floor were exposed to water
- The leak came from a supply line, drain, water heater or fixture connection
- Subfloor or floor joists under a leaking bathroom or kitchen are damaged
- Walls were removed and need reframing to the original layout
- Your adjuster has asked for inspections of systems inside the opened walls
Our process after mitigation
Here's how we handle behind-the-wall repairs:
- Inspect the opened cavities: after the property's mitigation company confirms the structure is dry, we inspect the framing, wiring and plumbing that are exposed.
- Scope the repairs: we note which framing members, circuits and lines need repair or replacement.
- Repair framing: we replace damaged plates, studs, sheathing or subfloor sections.
- Electrical and plumbing: our subcontractors complete the needed electrical and plumbing work.
- Close up: once repairs are complete, we install insulation, then drywall, paint and finishes.
Materials and options
This work connects to the rest of the rebuild:
- Drywall repair: closes walls and ceilings once framing and systems are complete.
- Bathrooms and kitchens: Bathroom and kitchen rebuilds often need plumbing reconnections for vanities, sinks and dishwashers.
- Laundry rooms: Laundry room repairs often involve washer box and supply line work.
- Basements: Finished basements may need outlets and circuits replaced near the floor.
Insurance help
Insurance coverage for the cause of a leak varies by policy. For example, a failed supply line itself may or may not be covered, while the resulting damage often is. We separate the repair items in our estimate so your adjuster can clearly see what relates to the cause and what relates to the resulting damage. See insurance claim reconstruction.
They dry it, we fix it
Flood Rewind is a reconstruction company. The property's mitigation company handles the dry-out, and once they confirm the structure is dry, we take over the rebuild.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to fix the leak before you rebuild?
Yes. The source of the leak needs to be repaired, by your plumber or as part of our scope, before walls are closed up.
Do you replace outlets and wiring that got wet?
Our electrical subcontractors replace outlets and wiring that need it as part of the rebuild.
Can water damage the framing inside my walls?
Yes. Bottom plates and studs can be damaged by prolonged exposure. We inspect opened walls and replace damaged framing before new drywall is installed.
Is the plumbing repair covered by insurance?
It depends on your policy. We list cause-related and damage-related items separately so your adjuster can review them.
Who coordinates all the trades?
We do. Our project managers schedule framing, electrical, plumbing and finish trades in the right order.
Do you replace insulation in opened walls?
Yes. Once framing, electrical and plumbing repairs are complete, we replace any insulation that was removed before installing new drywall.
