Finished basements are the most common rebuild we do. In the Kansas City area, lower levels often hold family rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and wet bars, and a single failed sump pump, water heater or plumbing line can affect all of them at once. Flood Rewind rebuilds finished basements after mitigation, including walls, flooring, trim, doors, cabinetry, bathrooms and paint.
Because a basement rebuild touches nearly every trade, having one team manage it saves you from juggling separate contractors.
Signs you need finished basement reconstruction
Your basement needs reconstruction if:
- The mitigation company made flood cuts along the bottom of the walls
- Carpet and pad were removed, or laminate and LVP were pulled up
- Baseboards, door casing and lower doors were removed
- Bar cabinets, built-ins or a bathroom vanity are swollen
- Insulation behind the walls was removed
- Your adjuster has asked for a rebuild estimate for the lower level
Our process after mitigation
Here's how we rebuild a finished basement:
- After mitigation: we start once the property's mitigation company confirms the structure is dry.
- Measure and document: we measure every room and record finishes, including flooring, trim profiles, doors, bars and bathroom fixtures.
- Systems first: we handle framing, electrical and plumbing repairs, then insulation.
- Walls and finishes: we hang and finish drywall, apply paint, install flooring, then add trim and doors.
- Bars and bathrooms: we finish cabinetry and bathroom repairs, then do the final walk-through.
Materials and options
- Flooring: luxury vinyl plank is a popular basement choice for its moisture resistance. Carpet, laminate and engineered hardwood are also on our flooring options page.
- Paint: colors from our paint options.
- Cabinetry: bar cabinetry and vanities from our cabinet options.
- Upgrades: some homeowners use the rebuild to upgrade flooring and finishes. We'll show you what your claim covers and what an upgrade would cost.
Insurance help
Basement claims depend heavily on your policy. Some losses, like a burst pipe, are often covered under standard policies, while sump pump failures may need a specific endorsement. We help you understand your adjuster's scope and document every room and finish in detail. Brock, our owner, has nearly two decades of insurance claim experience. See insurance claim reconstruction.
They dry it, we fix it

Frequently asked questions
Can you rebuild my entire finished basement?
Yes. We rebuild walls, flooring, trim, doors, bars and bathrooms as one project with one point of contact.
What flooring is best for a basement?
Many homeowners choose luxury vinyl plank for its moisture resistance. We'll go through the options with you.
Is sump pump damage covered by insurance?
It depends on your policy. Many policies require a specific endorsement for sump pump failures. Check with your agent, and we'll work with your adjuster on the approved scope.
Can I upgrade finishes during the rebuild?
Yes. We'll show you what your claim covers and the cost of any upgrades before work begins.
Do you handle mitigation too?
No. The property's mitigation company handles the dry-out. We start the reconstruction once your mitigation company confirms the structure is dry.
How long does a basement rebuild take?
It depends on the number of rooms, the finishes you choose and material lead times. We'll give you a schedule with your estimate and keep you updated as work progresses.
