Baseboards, door casing and interior doors are usually the first finish pieces to be removed during mitigation. MDF trim swells as soon as it gets wet, and wood trim can warp or split. Trim carpentry is the finish work that makes a rebuilt room look like it never flooded. Flood Rewind's carpenters replace baseboards, casing, doors, crown and built-ins, and match them to the rest of your home.

Trim is installed near the end of the rebuild, after drywall, paint and flooring, so it's often the last thing standing between you and a finished room. Getting it right means matching profiles, keeping reveals consistent and making sure doors close the way they did before the loss.

Signs you need trim carpentry

You'll need trim carpentry if:

  • Baseboards were removed or are swollen and separating at the joints
  • Door casing is warped, stained or pulling away from the wall
  • Interior doors are swollen at the bottom and no longer close properly
  • Stair skirt boards, window stools or built-in cabinetry were damaged
  • Crown molding was disturbed when ceiling drywall was replaced
  • New flooring has been installed and needs base and transitions

Our process after mitigation

Here's our trim process:

  1. Document existing profiles: before reconstruction, we note the style, size and material of the trim in each room.
  2. Source matching trim: we match common profiles. When an exact profile isn't available, we review the closest options with you.
  3. Install: after drywall and flooring are complete, we install baseboards, casing and doors.
  4. Finish: we fill nail holes, caulk joints and prepare the trim for paint or stain.
  5. Adjust: we hang and adjust doors so they swing and latch correctly.

Materials and options

Trim options include:

  • Primed MDF or finger-jointed pine baseboards and casing to match painted trim
  • Stain-grade wood where your home has stained trim
  • Prehung or slab interior doors in styles that match your existing doors
  • Crown molding, chair rail and wainscoting repairs
  • Built-ins and bar cabinetry; for kitchens, see our kitchen cabinets page

Trim work is part of nearly every finished basement and kitchen rebuild.

Insurance help

Insurance claims generally cover replacing trim and doors damaged by covered water, with materials of like kind and quality. Our estimates list each run of baseboard and each door and casing set, so your adjuster can see exactly what's being replaced. If matching requires replacing trim in an adjoining area for a consistent look, we document why. See insurance claim reconstruction.

They dry it, we fix it

Frequently asked questions

Can you match my existing trim profile?

In most cases, yes. When an exact match isn't available, we'll show you the closest options before installation.

Why do baseboards have to be replaced after water damage?

MDF and some wood trim swell and separate when wet, and they're often removed so the wall cavity can be dried by the mitigation company.

Do you replace interior doors?

Yes. We replace swollen or damaged interior doors and adjust them so they close properly.

Do you paint the trim too?

Yes. Our painters finish new trim as part of the rebuild.

Can you repair built-ins and bar cabinets?

Yes. We repair or replace built-in cabinetry damaged by water, depending on what can be matched.
