Floors take the brunt of most water losses. Carpet and pad usually have to be removed, laminate swells at the seams, and even water-resistant vinyl can trap moisture underneath. Once the mitigation company has finished, Flood Rewind repairs or replaces the flooring as part of the rebuild, from a single bathroom to an entire main level.

We install luxury vinyl plank (LVP), laminate, carpet, tile and engineered hardwood. For solid hardwood, see hardwood floor repair.

Signs you need flooring repair and replacement

You likely need flooring repair or replacement if:

  • Carpet and pad were removed during mitigation
  • Laminate planks are swollen, peaking or separating at the seams
  • Vinyl or LVP is lifting, or the subfloor beneath it feels soft
  • Tile grout is cracked or tiles sound hollow
  • Baseboards along the floor are swollen or stained
  • The flooring runs continuously through several rooms, and a partial repair would leave a visible break

Our process after mitigation

Here's our flooring process:

  1. Confirm the subfloor: the property's mitigation company confirms the subfloor is dry before any new flooring goes down.
  2. Assess and measure: we check the subfloor for damage, measure every affected room, and note transitions to unaffected areas.
  3. Match or select: we try to match your existing flooring first. If it's discontinued, we help you choose a comparable product.
  4. Subfloor repair: we replace any damaged subfloor panels so the new floor is flat and solid.
  5. Install: we install the new flooring, then reinstall or replace baseboards and transitions with our trim carpentry crew.

Materials and options

Browse products on our flooring options page, which lists builder-, high- and premium-grade options:

  • Luxury vinyl plank: a popular choice for basements and kitchens because of its moisture resistance
  • Engineered hardwood: a real wood surface with more stability than solid wood
  • Laminate: includes water-resistant lines
  • Carpet: for bedrooms and finished lower levels

Brands shown include Bruce, Hartco, Audacity, Inhaus and Tarkett. Flooring work is common in finished basement reconstruction, kitchen and laundry room rebuilds.

Insurance help

Insurance usually covers replacing flooring damaged by a covered water loss with flooring of like kind and quality. When flooring runs continuously through several rooms, matching becomes a key part of the claim, and we document the layout so your adjuster can see the full picture. If you want to upgrade, for example from carpet to LVP, we'll show you the difference in cost. See insurance claim reconstruction.

They dry it, we fix it

Flood Rewind is a reconstruction company. The property's mitigation company handles the dry-out, and once they confirm the structure is dry, we take over the rebuild.

Can you match my existing flooring?

We try to match it first. If the product is discontinued, we'll show you comparable options and work with your adjuster on the best solution.

Do I have to replace flooring in rooms that didn't get wet?

Sometimes. When flooring runs continuously, a partial replacement can leave a visible mismatch. We document the layout so your adjuster can decide on the scope.

What's the best flooring for a basement after water damage?

Many homeowners choose luxury vinyl plank for its moisture resistance. We'll go over the options on our flooring page with you.

Can I upgrade my flooring during the rebuild?

Yes. We'll explain what your claim covers and the cost of any upgrade before installation.

Do you replace baseboards too?
