After a water loss, painting is what makes a repaired room look finished. Once new drywall is hung and taped, the walls, ceilings and trim need the right primer and paint so patches disappear and stains don't bleed back through. Flood Rewind's painters handle that final step as part of the full rebuild, whether it's one bedroom wall or an entire lower level.
We paint after the drywall repair is complete, and we coordinate the timing with trim carpentry and flooring installation so each trade finishes cleanly.
Signs you need interior painting
You'll likely need interior painting if:
- New drywall was installed and is taped, mudded and ready to finish
- Water left brown or yellow rings on ceilings or walls
- Paint is bubbling, peeling or flaking where water ran down a wall
- Trim and doors were replaced and need to match the rest of the room
- Only part of a wall was repaired, and the patch won't blend without repainting the whole surface
- Ceiling stains remain after a leak from an upstairs bathroom or roof
Our process after mitigation
Here's how we paint after water damage:
- Confirm conditions: the property's mitigation company confirms the walls are dry before we start any finish work.
- Prep: we sand joint compound, fill minor imperfections, and mask floors, fixtures and adjoining rooms.
- Prime: we apply primer to new drywall and stain-blocking primer over water marks.
- Paint: we apply finish coats to walls, ceilings and trim, usually painting corner to corner so touch-ups don't show.
- Final check: we review the finish in natural and artificial light before signing off.
Materials and options
Choose colors from Sherwin-Williams' popular collection on our paint options page, or match your existing paint. We'll help you pick the right sheen for each surface, such as flat for ceilings, a washable finish for walls, and semi-gloss for trim and doors. Moisture-resistant products are a good choice in bathrooms and laundry rooms.
Painting often goes hand in hand with ceiling water damage repair, finished basement reconstruction and kitchen water damage repair.
Insurance help
Insurance policies generally cover repainting the areas affected by covered water damage. Because a patch rarely blends on its own, that often includes a full wall or ceiling plane. We document what was painted before the loss and include it in our estimate for your adjuster. If you'd like to change colors throughout the room, we'll explain what's covered and what would be an upgrade. Learn more about insurance claim reconstruction.

What our customers say
"Jake Gibson and his team were so easy to work with. The communication he provided during the whole reconstruction process of getting our house back together after a flood made the whole process easy. He even handled the insurance side of the communication. There were no unexpected costs and everything went smooth. The team cleaned up after themselves. You can not even tell where they had to replaced the drywall and repaint the walls. The workmen ship was amazing. i Would recommend them to anyone."

Frequently asked questions
Will the new paint match my existing walls?
We match your existing color whenever possible. Because aged paint can differ slightly from new paint, we usually paint a full wall or ceiling so the finish is consistent.
How soon can you paint after drywall repair?
We paint once the joint compound has fully cured and been sanded, usually right after the drywall phase of your rebuild.
Can I pick new colors during the rebuild?
Yes. You can browse colors on our paint options page. We'll explain any cost difference from what your claim covers.
Do you paint ceilings and trim too?
Yes. We paint walls, ceilings, baseboards, casing and doors as part of the rebuild.
Will water stains bleed through new paint?
Not when they're properly sealed. We use a stain-blocking primer over water marks before applying the finish coats.
